Today the people of South Carolina have chosen Senator John McCain to be their Republican nominee for the presidency. Lets all take a take a deep breath now that we know South Carolina has rejected the candidate who wants to take the United States back to the stone age. Ignorance and intolerance and fundamentalism were defeated today in South Carolina, thank goodness!

The Republican Party can thank the catastrophe that is the Bush administration for making the prospect of a Republican victory next November unlikely. CNN is reporting that in a head to head race with either Clinton or Obama, Republican hopefuls, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and Rudy Giuliani, would all lose convincingly to the Democrats. Only John McCain can give the Democrats a run for their money. When paired up with the other three Republican headliners the Democrats poll at over 50% nationally. When pitted against McCain, the race tightens to a statistical tie.

All the major news networks are reporting this afternoon that presidential candidate, Rudy Giuliani, has asked his top campaign staffers to work the month of January without pay. His staff has accepted his request, and continues to maintain that the campaign is not in financial trouble. According to campaign officials, Giuliani has 12.7 million in cash remaining in his campaign accounts. A campaign source said that the staff has agreed to work without compensation in order to allow Giuliani to use the extra money towards buying advertising spots for the upcoming Florida primary, which will be held on January 29.
